Expert System, leading provider of semantic software that discovers, classifies and interprets unstructured text information, has earned a Distinguished Honoree medal for Best New Product or Service of the Year in the category of Computer Software, New Version in the 2010 International Business AwardsSM. The International Business Awards are the only global, all-encompassing business awards program honoring great performances in business.

Organizations all over the world are eligible to compete in the International Business Awards and can enter in any of more than 40 categories. Honorees were selected from more than 1,700 entries received from organizations and individuals in more than 40 countries.

“This is an important victory, not just for Expert System, but for the semantic Web in general,” said J. Brooke Aker, CEO of Exert System USA. “We’ve been working on several projects that aim to shed more light on semantic technology and push for worldwide understanding and adoption. Recognition as a Distinguished Honoree in an international arena helps us achieve those goals.”

Expert System USA was recognized for the updated version of its Cogito Focus® software, which is designed to search, analyze and correlate strategic information available within a company’s network or on the Web. The software achieves an extremely high degree of accuracy due to its semantic approach, which enables the technology to interpret words, phrases and sentences as a human would.

The new version of Cogito Focus, debuted in March 2010, capitalizes on the software’s capabilities in three main ways:

• It extends the semantic search capabilities to all formats of information, including structured and unstructured data, from both internal and external sources
• It automatically presents the concepts, entities, etc. at the end of each search, which helps users modify their parameters to get the content they need
• It maps the relations of search terms and their results, making it easy to interpret results

In addition to Cogito Focus’ Distinguished Honoree status at this year’s International Business Awards, it also won the 2010 American Business Awards in the same category.

“Despite the harsh economic climate, entries to the IBAs actually grew a bit this year, and that illustrates the increasing importance of The International Business Awards worldwide,” said Michael Gallagher, president of The Stevie Awards, presenters of the IBAs. “We congratulate all of the honorees, and we look forward to recognizing them for their achievements at our gala awards dinner in Istanbul on September 27.”
